  • Modern Science: Plastic Surgery Techniques

  • Contributor: Sir Harold Gillies (Father of Modern Plastic Surgery)

  • Description: Plastic surgery techniques, developed by various scientists and practitioners, have evolved significantly from the 20th century onwards. These techniques encompass a wide range of procedures aimed at reconstructing or altering the human body for functional or aesthetic purposes.

  • Time Period: 20th Century onwards

  • Time Period: 600 BCE

  • Location: Bharatvarsh

  • EVIDENCE: Sushruta Samhita,

Sutrasthana, Chapter 16:

"यत्र नासिकां निकुज्याद्यांते सुत्राधारां समारोप्य तद्वत्"

  • MEANING: "Where the nose is cut off, after placing a tube-like structure (sutrādhāra), reconstruct it in the same manner."

Sushrut Samhita, Uttar Tantra, Chapter 16, Verse 9:

Meaning: “A piece of skin equal to the size of the missing nose should be separated from the cheek, and after cauterizing it, it should be stitched to the nose.”

  • Modern Science Connection: Modern medical surgery techniques have been inspired by Sushrut Samhita's surgical techniques, including rhinoplasty, plastic surgery, dentistry, Cataract surgery, and many more.

  • Ancient Science: Maharshi Sushrut (Father of Surgery and Medical Sciences)

  • Conclusion: Plastic surgery techniques, developed worldwide from the 20th century onwards, have seen significant advancements. In ancient India, Sushrut Samhita, dating back to 600 BCE, contains detailed surgical techniques, including rhinoplasty. The early concepts found in Sushrut Samhita offer a remarkable connection to modern plastic surgery practices, highlighting the enduring legacy of ancient medical knowledge in this field. Maharishi Sushrut's knowledge of medicine and surgery has guided the entire world, in the field of medical sciences .
