Contributor: Sir Isaac Newton
-
Time Period: 17th Century
-
Location: England
-
Description: The Three Laws of Motion, formulated by Sir Isaac Newton, are fundamental principles in classical mechanics that describe the relationship between the motion of an object and the forces acting upon it. These laws revolutionized our understanding of physics and laid the groundwork for modern science and engineering.

-
Inventor: Maharshi Kanaad (Father of Atomic Theory and Physics)
-
Time Period: Estimated to be around the 6th century BCE
-
Location: Bharatvarsh
-
Description: Maharshi Kanaad, an ancient Indian sage and philosopher, developed the concept of "Anu" (atom) and laid the foundation for the atomic theory in Indian philosophy. His insights into the nature of matter contributed to the understanding of the fundamental constituents of the universe.

Vaisheshik Sutra by Maharshi Kanaad, Three Laws of Motion (Gati Niyam)
-
वेगः निमित्तविशेषात कर्मणो जायते।
1st Law: “Change of motion is due to impressed force.”
-
वेगः निमित्तापेक्षात कर्मणो जायते नियतदिक क्रियाप्रबन्धहेतु।
2nd Law: “Change of motion is proportional to the impressed force and is in the direction of the force.”
-
वेगः संयोगविशेषविरोधी।
3rd Law: “Action and reaction are equal and opposite.”
Connection between Modern and Ancient Concepts:
While Newton's Three Laws of Motion describes the behavior of Motion proposed in the 17th Century, it seems equivalent to the laws of motion proposed by Maharshi Kanaad centuries ago in the 6th Century BCE. The discoveries and inventions of Ancient Scientists are undoubtedly a major inspiration to the young modern science in the present day.

Ancient Concept: Gati Niyam
-
Conclusion: Sir Isaac Newton's “Three Laws of Motion” and Maharishi Kanaad's “Gati Niyam” concept are very similar. While Newton's laws motivated the study of physics in the 17th century, Maharshi Kanaad's ancient insights into the nature of matter, Gravitational force, 3 laws of motion, etc. which were already done long ago in the 6th century, laid a great groundwork for understanding the fundamental constituents of the universe. This reflects the greatness of ancient Indian science and scientists. Our heartfelt tribute to such great contributors who contributed selflessly to the world’s good and the betterment of humanity.
